Here are some tips of android screen rotation.
On the emulator, after the Android system is started up, open another command window, type the following command line in the adb shell to change the screen to landscape:
# service call window 18 i32 1
type the following command line to change the screen to portrait:
# service call window 18 i32 0

When I enter the 'service call' command, I get a response Result: 'Parcel(00000000 '....'), with no change to the emulator display.
Also, 7 or 9 on the keypad simply brings up the Contacts application - ??
What am I doing wrong?

I know this is old, but you can hit ctrl-f12 to rotate the screen in the emulator while it is running.
7 or 9 works perfectly!.. :)

On a Mac without a key pad, you may also need the 'fn' key: fn-ctrl-F11, fn-ctrl-F12
